Estelle Chaigne est photographe, musicienne et artiste basée à Rennes. Sa pratique explore les potentialités de la photographie en détournant ses techniques et ses outils, à travers l’utilisation de caméras du XIXème siècle, de flashs au magnésium, de dispositifs expérimentaux ou de la vidéo. Elle s’intéresse aux histoires parallèles de la photographie : les techniques oubliées, les usages amateurs, spirites, vernaculaires ou scientifiques, et tout ce qui s’est développé en marge de son histoire officielle.
Détournant les procédés photographiques, ses œuvres font de l’acte photographique un moyen d’interroger les relations entre les corps, les techniques, les croyances et le vivant, cherchant moins à représenter le monde qu’à rendre sensibles les forces, les traces et les relations invisibles qui le traversent.
Estelle Chaigne is a photographer, musician, and artist based in Rennes. Her practice explores the potential of photography by subverting its techniques and tools—employing 19th-century cameras, magnesium flashes, experimental setups, and video. She focuses on the parallel histories of photography: forgotten techniques, as well as amateur, spiritualist, vernacular, and scientific uses—everything that developed on the margins of the medium’s official history.
By repurposing photographic processes, her work transforms the act of photography into a means of questioning the relationships between bodies, technologies, beliefs, and the living world; she seeks not so much to represent the world as to make tangible the invisible forces, traces, and connections that run through it.
